Highlights

  • Sakurako grew up in Japan, spent time in Canada, and is now based in Barcelona.
  • She specializes in international expansion — from identifying growth opportunities and building partnerships to navigating market localization and the realities of doing business across very different cultural and regulatory environments.

With experience at organizations including Richemont, Dunhill Japan, and Fortidia, Sakurako has developed a strong foundation in cross-border business development, partner acquisition, and market entry. Her career has taken her across industries including luxury goods, logistics, and international education.

Her background includes working with customer data and business intelligence at Richemont Japan, where she supported brands such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and IWC. She analyzed customer behavior and NPS insights to inform business decisions, and helped coordinate the launch of IWC’s digital video shopping initiative between Japan and European headquarters. Earlier in her career, she worked in luxury retail at Dunhill Japan, building client relationships and developing hands-on experience in personalized sales and digital clienteling.

Currently, Sakurako contributes to Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), a global franchise network operating in shipping, logistics, printing, and e-commerce fulfillment through 1,700+ service centers in over 45 countries. MBE specializes in international parcel delivery, micrologistics and fulfillment, professional packaging, customs clearance, graphic design, and business support services, where strong local partnerships and operational know-how are essential to sustaining the network’s global growth.

In her role on the Business Development team, Sakurako focuses on expanding MBE’s presence across Asia. She leads market research and opportunity identification in untapped territories, sources and qualifies potential master franchise partners, and supports new partners through the early stages of market entry and operational development. She works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to move opportunities from first contact through to execution.

Sakurako brings a genuinely multicultural perspective to her work, having lived and worked across East Asia and Europe. This experience gives her a practical understanding of how business relationships, communication styles, and market dynamics differ across regions — and how to navigate those differences effectively.

Originally from Japan and now based in Barcelona, she holds an MBA from UPF Barcelona School of Management and a BA in French Literature from Sophia University in Tokyo. She is drawn to roles that sit at the intersection of cultures and markets, and finds that the most interesting opportunities are usually the ones that haven’t been explored yet.
Outside of work, she is passionate about classical ballet, making and drinking tea, and trying new food wherever she goes.
